What is a 'Stipulation'?

A formal agreement between the parties in a lawsuit.

A "stipulation" is a formal agreement between the attorneys for both sides regarding some aspect of the case. These are common and are used to make the legal process more efficient.

For example, the parties might stipulate to extend a deadline by a few days or agree that a certain fact is not in dispute, so it does not need to be proven at trial.
